i would like to weld 2 mild steel flanges to a piece of 2 inch stainless steel tube, what would be the best wire to use. my machine is a ceborra 130 pocket mig ? also would i need a higher power setting than for mild steel ?
my mitzy shogun has a knackered cat, so untill i find the source of the missfire i am replacing the cat with a piece of tube temporarily. so it dos,nt have to be 100% cos it will be comming back off when the problems fixed and a new cat fitted. stainless steel tube was just what i had lying about, dont want to go and buy a lenth of mild steel just for 18 inches of temporary repair.
I used to build big industrial shakers/sifters and some of them had the outer shell 304 SS and the insides were carbon steel. We used steel mig wire for the inside and 308 SS for the outside. It was done like that for years and prob still is...Bob

hello
as a rule in general if welding mild steel to stainless steel or vise versa you treat it as you would with disimular welding ie if you have no disimular arc welding rods and an arch welder then you would then turn to tig welding it using 309 stainless steel welding rods 0r it might work using stainless mig welding wire ? wich would be much stronger than using mild steel wire as it contains cromium
