I do like this stuff where it looks delicate, and there is no idea of the force and violence involved in making it.

Thanks for the comments, the petals are made from 0.5 stainless, any thicker and they are difficult to form, you then end up with a rose that looks more like a cabbage.

There are four sets of petals made a bit like a five bladed fan blade with a 5mm hole in the middle,simply cut with aviation snips and deburred on a flap wheel, each one progressively smaller, then using the flypress pushed into various sized tubes so that they form up to fit one inside the other.

The leaf at the back is just a star shaped piece formed in the hand.
The detail on the three leaves is pressed in using a 1mm stainless tig rod against a block of hardwood on the flypress.

The stem is 5mm dia rod threaded for about 15mm, then the formed up petals are slipped on and held between 2 nuts. the only bit of welding on the thing is the three small tacks to hold the leaves to the stem.

Chunko, No blood spilled on this one, and not much force and violence either, I reserve that for paying work.

Well this rose turned out to be quite popular, I ended up making ten of them for money, must be the time of year. I'm bored with them now so wont make any more for a while,

Aaah the joy of batch production.
I hate being asked to make 'one like that' and being shown something I made a while back, or 'some of those'. It pays the bills but kills enjoyment.
I find it amazing how the process speeds up with familiarity though. So watching the hourly rate go up is an incentive.

Are you still making these magnificent roses? My dad has recently passed and he used to make BBQ and spits, he used to make everything in Stainless and I want these to put on his tomb stone
