Stainless steel mig.

I've done a little mig welding now and, after some instruction, can now produce seemingly strong welds. I've found the welds look a little better if I use 0.8mm wire on the 1.0mm settings.
I've now ordered some 0.8mm 316L wire and can, hopefully, scrounge some scrap to practice on.
I plan to use the 95% argon, 5% CO2 gas which I understand from the instructions on this site is not perfect.
In advance of getting everything together, can anyone offer any tips?

I'll be following your progress as I've been wanting to do the same with my kempii evo200. I may be remembering wrong but depending on the stuff you're working on I think people recommend gas on the reverse of the weld to prevent sugaring?

I can't justify another bottle of gas either, not for the small amount I have to do. I had wondered about stick or maybe flux core.

I've done a bit of stainless with my Evo 200...worked pretty well. I was also using 5% co2. I wasn't doing anything critical...but the repair is still going strong.

As far as I know it's all good...it was a repair to a stainless tool for our local butcher (earned me some sausages).

I looked a little dull but cleaned up ok. I've also done a bit of Ali and brazing too with the same welder and that was also fine. Nothing structural...just gluing bits together to fix broken tools etc.

That's all v exciting to hear, did you use a Teflon liner for the Ali? I've been meaning to get one but it's low down the list of priorities.

Yes I switched to the orange teflon....to be honest I just left it in for everything as it's a faff to change on the Kemppi.

The mig brazing is very useful...I made a joint for a radiator using mig braze and it worked really well with the stainless pipe.
