Its the corrosion resistant properties of SS which would be affected by using 5% co2 ultimately also affecting the weld integrity (MAG welding) .Personally I have used 5% with 308l wire, but I've never welded anything that needs to be 'strong'...now I'd tig it but ideally you want less than 3% co2 I think

Do not TIG weld anything with any % co2 content ( unless you want welds full of porosity ) Argon with low levels of hydrogen ( up to 5%) will give you a better less oxidised finish than pure argon
