Looks great Pondman, but Chunko is right - if you have used a steel grinder brush on the ss you have contaminated the surface with steel. It will rust quite quickly if outside.
Just welding/heating ss can also lead to rust, you should pickle the welds with a pickling paste, then shine them up with non steel abrasives. You can get ss grinder brushes or there are a host of non woven abrasives.
There is also the option of sending the work of to an electropolishers, they will pickle then electropolish the work and it will look amazing for many, many years. more expensive of course - i use them for public art pieces that need to be 100% non rusting.
Thanks for the info! I'm not sure what I'm going to do as I have to deliver it by the end of the week! How long do you think it will last without treatment? I might tell him that it will need repo listing at some point and do it when it deteriorates. He wanted it to show his grand daughter...
