SRS Light on Disco 2 came on today???

Driving home from work the red SRS light came on and quite panicked i pulled into a grage and checked the Drivers Manuel, Its to do with the Air bags and says if it stays on to seek help immediately.

What does this mean, does it mean the airbags are not working or they are working and could go off whilst i'm driving I think the latter worries me more.

or is it £100 down the landy garage to connect upto a pc and reset???

most likely the spiral connector under the steering wheel has gone faulty,

plug it into a test thing to make sure,
most LR specialists will do it cheaply.

Some have to be reset, some will self reset self when the fault has been fixed, I don't know about land rovers, someone here will, I had the airbag light come on on my pug, fixed it by disconnecting the battery, then checked and cleaned all the airbag connections I could find, reconnected it and its been ok ever since, seat belt pre-tensioner faults will show an airbag light as well.

Thanks guys, Its not as if the air bag will explode whilst i'm driving??? Thats the only thing that worries me as i do a lot of motorway miles just to get to work

It means the system has detected a fault (obvious sorry) and has reverted to an inactive state, with the light on they should not go off, it could be anything from a chafed wire to a blown fuse or even the electronic brain has frazzled.
You dont need to go to a landy garage (unless you really want to) any decent garage with OBD reading equipment will be able to 'harvest' the fault codes and set you off in the right direction.
There are far too many variables to consider without the onboard diagnostics results to even begin to advise on what to look for.

Although check for the obvious, blown fuses, loose relays or even a rats nest in the wiring loom dont I have known it to happen once you have them call back or check out on the landy forums if the tech sucks air through his teeth with a glint in his eye.

Thanks for the quick reply, I won't have much time to sort it probably til the weekend, so i'll check all i can firstly and should that fail i'll get the fault code done and sorted

At least it won't explode in my face doing 70 down the motorway

A good place to start is the seatbelt pre-tensioners where they are connected usually under the seat, quite often happens if the seat has been moved after a long period in one place. The wire should have a yellow sheath, try disconnecting and re-connecting the plug a few times (ignition off) don't know if the Disco auto resets or an EOBD reader is needed.

have they got seatbelt pre tensioners? if so look at the wiring to those.

Cheers, will do i'll look tommorrow at work i had to move the seat up forward as i had the rears down to take a trip to the tip yesterday, Only putting the seats back this morning so that may be a possible cause there

Ok, Its 6am and i've just gone and had a look under the drivers seat, There are some yellow connectors above the CD changer, I just made sure they were all connected ok, just had a little check make sure no wires were loose or broken, Then i tried it again and the light went out

So i'm pretty chuffed that i didn't have to spend any ££££££££'s
