We actually just started using files a little more for deburring insides of stainless pipes. We used to use a die grinder. The file is probably quicker neater and easier.

I still have my old scraper from donkey's years ago - last time I used it was on a hot(ish) mini engine when I was 'running in' the bottom end on the bench.

Stragely enough it was watching my old instructor Alfie Laird using a scraper that completely changed the way I saw things - I often wonder if he had any idea how much he changed my life.

I doubt he is still alive now, but I would really like to thank him for what he taught me all those years ago. He made a huge impact on me, and I'm sure if it wasn't for him things would have turned out very differently.

I fitted some white metalled con-rods to my Riley. I was assured by the supplier that they didn't need scraping in. Wrong. The engine seized so I spent a happy hour or two lying on my back under the car scraping them with a pair of kitchen scissors. Worked a treat too!

i dont supose many people know what draw filing is or ever done it i chain drill chissel and file quite often even though i have the machinery to do it fore me .it gives more satisfaction making things

Caused a bit of grief until, like any cutting tool, you got the knack of sharpening it correctly.

Surely it must take an age? How much can you remove per "pass" can't be more than a thou or something.
