Do you have a dro on the mill Parm ? They usually have a pocket milling feature. You tell it the centre of the pocket, the size, the dro works everything out and all you do is keep zeroing the dials.

I know what the issues were, first thing I need to buy a smaller diameter cutter.

What size cutter are you after? I’ve got some 3mm & 2mm you can have, what RPM will the mill run up to?

Good drawing and that’s exactly what I tried to do, but you can see from my picture that it didn’t quite go to plan

it’s wasn’t a total loss as I’ve learnt some stuff

I don't have a dro, but i got a couple of digital scales cheap off ebay. This gives x and Y measurements independently but none of the functions. But was only a few quid compared to few hundred.

I bought the usual chinese dro set for the mill earlier in the year, and went through the functions just to see if they worked well. They do, the pcd thing, the angle drilling, and the pocket milling does too. There is a corner radius function but its a bit of a faff.

That's my method on the lathe . Have a nice 40mm travel clock with a mag base.

You need to do what I did mate, build yourself one of these. The light is a cycle one ex Banggood and the rest is from offcuts/scrap etc. Very controllable, hands free and it can be like Blackpool if you want, with it's three power setting . Bonus is it USB chargeable so no more batteries....ever

No DRO, it’s a small baby bench top mill made by hobby mat

2mm - 2mm shank, 40mm o/a, ~8mm flute

3mm - 3mm shank, 38mm o/a, ~15mm flute
