Hi,

I'm making a hydraulic press and have two spring to return the bottle jack
the problem is I would like to put more of a bend on the hooks at the ends
of the springs.Would i heat and bend the hooks to the require shape and
and then temper the ends agin,at what heat should i retemper the ends to stop them stretching out?

Might be opening up a can of worms unless you know the material the springs were made out of.
Heating up to bend you would have to reharden and temper.

If it's only a small amount the hooks need bending you can probably do it cold, Just go steady.

It's not a big bend,so i'll go for bending them cold

Vaguely relevant?
The doors that open my garage door broke years back, losing the hooks.I was advised to use oxy/acetylene to make new hooks on the ends of them, bear in mind they are under tension whenever closed, they lasted years before going kertwang and breaking just below the bends I put in.
