I think I've asked before but I found something I could use

I need a SIMPLE book/guide on making a spreadsheet.

I'm not a complete luddite but I've managed to find what I need until now, everything online is far too bloated but making it up as I go just doesn't work

I'm working on a couple of renovations that are split up into lots of jobs and staged payments, so I need columns for the jobs then one with the price, another I can put payments in then a column showing how much is left per job and total for the complete job

There must be something in the "... for Dummies" series. Most likely Excel, but the principles apply across the board, and most spreadsheets will have help. There are a few good forums for Excel.

Let me know what software you have and I’ll knock something up for you. PM me a list of the properties, jobs and contractors. Once I’ve created it I’ll explain how it works so you can amend for future use.

Can you post a mock up of what you want it to look like? A screenshot of what it should look like with some fake data in would be excellent.... Or a photo of a drawing and I'll try to help you out...

In the meantime have a browse of the templates accessible from the new spreadsheet page and find something close to what your trying to achieve.

It's not complicated, just not my thing.

Doing it pen and paper i nearly did myself out of £500 and we cant be having that

Try the template mate. May be be something there you can use straight off
Modifying templates got me started on then.
Great for logging to save work come tax return time too.

There is an excel book for dummies.
That isn't a dig at the orginal poster.

If you even write down on paper what you want I could email you a template when I am back in work tomorrow. However it does sound like it's a basic formula you want so shouldn't be too hard for you to master.

I'd probably look at putting the individual jobs on separate tabs and then a front summary tab.

Will be one spreadsheet per property, it's just each property can be broken down into 10 or more jobs, each with deposits, stage and final payments

I used Open Office but found, personally, it wasn't as good as Microsoft Office. Recently I tried WPS Office and have been impressed so far.

Yeah - I use excel in work (because they pay for it!) but for home use open office can do everything excel can at an attractive price (free ).
