Hi all
I’m picking up a roll cage for my track car in a couple of days and I need to weld in the spreader plates.
It’s a bolt in cage but the plates with the captive nuts need welding on the inside of the car first.
I’ve got a Clarke 151 Mig which works ok but I don’t.
I always struggle to get it to feed nicely and never seem to get the correct setting.
As this is my first time welding thin car steel I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers?
The spreader plates are 3mm I think and I guess the car metal is probably less than 1mm???
So what would be a good starting point setting for the Mig? As this is welded in the car I can’t really have a practice setup anywhere.
Also with regard to the tips, I keep ordering them off eBay/Amazon and the thread for the gun always seems to be wrong. Is there another brand that uses the same thread as the Clarke “Hobby migs”?
Thanks guys.
