spraying 2k how long does it hang around

Hi I've been spraying 2k in my garage and shed, been using air fed mask. I was wondering how long does it hang around for and when is it safe to go in the garage without a mask ?

wait until touch dry and the mist has cleared then open doors for 5 mins to be sure and change the air in there

Thanks, Sprayed about an hour ago, let a through draft during that time but can still smell vapour, not sure weather its isocyanates or just solvent. I assume it releases isocyanates when its still wet but want to be safe.

the isocyanates are dangerous when in the airborne mist so an hour later and a through draft will be fine you will still get a smell from the paint as it fully cures

Phew! thanks , how about spraying epoxy, I've been using air fed for this but couldn't see any reference to iscyanates

doesn't have iso in it still best practise to breath in only air

With top coats,you really need to go in briefly after about 10 minutes and see if its flashed off ready for the next coat. then re mask and paint as soon as its flashed. Shouldn't come to any harm then but don't hang about until its fully aired out post final coat. you will still smell the solvents tomorrow.

as I said, I would normally go in after about 10 minutes. Touch a bit of the wet overspray paint as close to the panel as you can with your finger tip. If it feels like the back of a bit of masking tape., its ready

they are industrial booths though, nothing like spraying at home in a garage. a pro booth should have the clearance time on it

The correct procedure for isocyanates and ventilation is to measure the clearance time. This is done by filling room with smoke and then timing how long it takes to evacuate smoke when extraction is switched on. The clearance time is how long you should keep the air supplied respirator on as a minimum.

Isocyanates are very very very potent respiratory sensitizers and cause asthma, something not be be messed around with. If you are using workshop compressor it's vital to ensure that its drawing air from a clean place. Having compressor located in the garage that you are spraying in is a complete waste of time !!

I keep the air fed compressor isolated in another room. I Use another for the paint. Trying to be as careful as possible.

id say pop the mask back on as the fumes hang about for ages , then once its touch dry pop the doors open and let it clear

I spray with the garage door open and it clears in no time, less dust but more prone to flys.

I tried with the garage door shut to start with and used 2.4kw of extraction and it took a long time to clear.

spray booths require massive amounts of air flow anywhere from 800 cfm there are some much much bigger
