I am doing some body work on a car I am restoring. I am new to all of this and I've bought the car to learn these skills; although my skill and experience will be what determine the quality of the final finish I do want to do the best job I can.
I am building up all of the tools that I need to get it done.
Right now I am removing corroded panels and welding in new metal; all the while the car is "usable"; which means that really I need to be painting it up as I go along (once complete, I'll probably treat the car to a full respray).
As it stands I have 11CFM (FAD) 100L 3HP compressor, with air filter and hoses. But I am still figuring out what to do regarding a spray gun. My research so far has suggested that a decent spray gun is critical.
So I am sort of torn between the following options:
1. Buy a Devilbiss FLG spray gun and use it for all jobs; primer, base and clear - washing it thoroughly between them. And buy a second gun when I get round to doing the bigger panels.
2. Buy a Devilbiss SLG touch up kit which comes with a smaller gun and a larger HVLP gun and then when it comes to doing larger panels buy an FLG down the road.
3. Same as above but buy the "Fast Mover" version of this kit.
Having a smaller gun makes a lot of sense to me, because I can see myself having to do lots and lots of smaller jobs.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
