Spray arc transfer, what do you think?

Just wondered if these look ok

Look ok to me, apart from the corners, always try to wrap around a little, then cease the arc. Looks substantial matl, you could do a three run pass, which would depend upon what welded up job will be doing and, wire dia.

Cheers pal. Took those this morning but just noticed the line running along the weld/run but I think it's either centre of the arc or the crown of the throat if that makes sense lol what do you think?

Also I don't have the problem with the corners when doin short circuit as I come back 10mm or so before finishing

First glance I didn't notice line at top centre of fillet throat. Looks ok but, would be interesting to se results of a dye pen, or mpi test. If you have the gear, of course?

I get ya. As for testing we don't have the stuff to do it unfortunately

The upper one changes half way along and has s colder look to it in profile and the toes
I suspect this is due to the uncleared crud n rust
The lower one doesn't wrap around but spray is not great positionally so your start stops end up were they are
All tidy enough though especially if it's new to you. Personally I don't go into spray unless it's suited and required. The bottom one isn't typically suited to the application imo and creates more issues than it fixes

Tis 1st time spraying tbh just thought I'd try it but don't think I need to go spray arc as steel is 12mm plate and 200x75x23 pfc so I think 12.5 wfs and 25v is ample as its giving 250 amps ish. Thanks for your reply mate

I have being cleaning the pfc as it had some rust on it but as for the flat plate I didn't as it only had the slag on it. Stuff I made 3 years ago is still standing so must be doing something right lol. Anyway I thought I'd clean flt plt as well and results are much better imo. I'll take some pics tomorrow but I reckon I could turn set down a tad too

Looking at the weld it looks OK especially considering the rusty crud you welded straight through

A little concerned about the fillet size looking at the thickness of the Base plate and fixing holes mind you. That's got to be way the weakest part of the job. But I don't know what it is or does

You probably can't see it due to the weld but I did fettle the rusty and scale off and as for throat it measures 6mm but angle of pic probably don't show it properly

I can see the size and in relation to the Base? Plate and drilled holes it's too small a fillet imo
The material I should clean at least an inch clear of the toes on both sides.

That was just a quick clean for purpose of the post so thanks for the advice re cleaning and I'll put the in to practice.

For metal that thick the fillet size should be in relation to its thickness. It's a good looking run but a multi pass would give the better reinforcement. We chose a thicker material because we want the strength. Don't compromise it with an inferior weld.
