Spotlights or battens for garage?

I use battens for general lighting in the workshop, but these are supported by spotlights focusing on specific areas, (lathe, drill press, work bench surface... etc).
As daft as it may sound I also commonly wear a head torch - I can never have "too much light"

Was thinking these will do the job! Look flush fitting so perfect as wires will come down through plasterboard. Some of the others look like the cable is surface mounted.

I've used LED battens from Screwfix in my little shed, they work quite well. I think they're about £30 each. The ceiling is not too high, so I fitted them around the edge so they don't get bashed or snagged when I'm moving unwieldy stuff.
There are six, split into two switched halves, only the one half is turned on here. With all six on it's pretty bright. Having everything painted white make a hell of a difference too.

Has anyone tried LED light ropes in a workshop? How bright would the white ones be compared to battens, either LED or fluorescent?

LED battens are great but we are finding 4 led battens over a 6x6 area is not enough. They were cheapies about £30 each and quite good at first but once they get about a year old they start to dull and now it's awful in the workshop.
TBH i think old fluorescents were better if you're gonna do it cheaply.
They last years and although they supposedly use more energy, the lifespan must make up for that somewhat.

I did the workshop a few years ago - bright white LED battens with new white reflectors behind them - not had a bulb changeas yet - and they on 60hrs a week +

God the old fluo' tubes were pink - first time I turned the LEDs on it was like - well new bright light.

If anyone needs spots for any reason in their workshop, there are 110 degree GU10s available, I have these in my kitchen, hall, stairs and landing, amazon link, they provide a very even light in a 1m to 1.5m grid with a 2.4m ceiling height. If I had a suitable ceiling in my shed/workshop I may would have fitted them instead of battens.

Seems hard to buy anything quality these days. The screwfix batons we have tripped the power this morning. Obviously not IP65.

Those are exactly what I have in my 9 x 8 metre workshop, I’ve 9 of them, they light the place up but they’re not massively bright, I still need a plug in light To illuminate what I’m working on.

I've got some sort of white pvc or flex at the minute, i'm wondering if i should be using rubber? Given the damp nature?

When i worked at a nice workshop, if I remember correctly it was small armoured down to every light.

depends on the structure of building,concrete or metal generaly plastic conduit or armoured cable if wood flat twin and earth pvc any drops on chains 3 core flex to a plug in ceiling rose connector

Metal building, metal purlin. Very damp, dripping condensation every morning when it warms up outside

I wired mine with singles through pvc conduit with a bit of flexi conduit to the batons from the termination boxes

probably use armoured 1.5mm cable to waterproof joint boxes and flex drops using stuffing glands in to the ip rated fittings if there fastened to the purlin just armoured glands either end of fitting

Yeah Ansell do seem a bit on the cheap side but they are pretty reliable.

I've been fitting their battens for years and only had one failure I can think of so far.

Flexishield cable is my go-to for this kind of thing these days.
