I'm trying to spot some 16 gauge car frame material and I CANT for the life of me penetrate through the bottom metal! I'm using 75/25 mix and I'm using level 4 (max) and about 50 speed. I've tried .030 and .025 (thinking the smaller would penetrate more).
If i use a faster speed, it fills the hole in 2 seconds flat with a huge mound, if I go slower, the wire seems to burn off before hitting the metal.
I can burn through 1 sheet of 16 without issue, but I cant get a solid dependable plug hold and its usually a 2mm high weld, haha..
Can a Hobart 140 spot weld 16 or even 14 gauge car frame material? I dont really want to return this 140 and spend another $300 on top for a 220v welder.
I've reviewed the Spot Weld page (plug-weld), though helpful it was.. I need advice from more experienced welders.
Thanks!!
