Twenty plus years ago I bought a "Spotmatic" hand held spot welder, to make a neat job of some sills on a car. Long story short, it never happened. Put the machine away and forgot all about it until the weekend, as I have a need for it.
Plugged it in to try it, and it works of a fashion ....... can hear it buzzing and test items (2 X 1mm) smoke slightly and get hot, but are easy to pull apart. On low settings does not seem to weld anything at all. It is supposed to be able to weld 2 X 2mm, but there is no way it will do it.
It is NOT on the end of a 200 metre 0.5mm2 extension lead either, but direct via flylead into the consumer unit on a 40 amp breaker.
Is there any means of testing it ?
