Spot welder electrodes

Hi I just got a spot welder to do me seals and wings on me escort, I only have one pair of electrodes there ok but limited to what I can do with them, can I buy some copper bar off eBay and make some new electrodes, or is it some special metal? Thanks

For the actual electrodes you need copper chrome zirconium (CCZ) and ideally use that for the arms too though if they're short copper will probably suffice.

I have no problem using home made arms and electrodes using eBay's finest copper bar. 25 mm and 6 mm if I remember correctly. (I occasionally pinch a bit of the stock to make electrodes for my 'sinker' EDM machine, but don't tell the spot welder )

BTW I trim the ends of my spot welding electrodes in the lathe using a 45 degree insert when they get a bit mankey, much faster then the proper sharpener that tends to stay in the box !

Hi I been after a spot welder for about 5 years,i keep looking,so I went to my mates garage and there a guy who does a bit of spraying, i just random asked him do you have a spot welder you want to sell,he said there is one some where,this work shop was a mess, so he got it he said he used it few years ago but most of the cars now use 2k glue to stick panels on , he said best thing to do before you weld is drill a hole in one of the panels your going to spot weld,soon as I herd that I knew I was on to a winner lol, I was like a dog with two pricks when I put it on me van ,i think it's a 2kva sip with timmer whoop whoop and it works

Thanks that's very kind,I saw the guy who I bought the spot welder off and he said there's more arms somewhere in he's works shop,I need the longer arms to weld a set of bubble arches on a mk1 escort
