Why bother trying to make one?
You would need a precision grinder to make the cutting face, which has a tip in the middle to centre the bit and spurs on the edge to make sure the edge is clean.
Machine mart do a different style with a spring loaded centre spike and what is in effect a mini disc cutter for about £6
They both come in different sizes

I Got one of the 8mm ebay ones and a 5/16 mm one also. I prefer the traditional ebay type. be careful when you drill in and stop when you get through the top layer of metal. This will then have a crescent of a slit round the edge of the hole. fould that moving the drill round in a circular motion helped the spurs cut through the top layer. there will be a bit of metal that will need to be cleaned up after. I should have some photos of the strut top of my capri being removed. I'll dig them out and post them.

Beat me to it! Looking on ebay - a bit like that would set you back £10.50 for 10 bits by Dormer (good make) or £23.50 for 5 by Sealey (bloody expensive!)
I made my one recently after following the guide on retrorides. Works! If you get it right... I'm in the process of removing a bulkhead from a VW T4 van. Plug welds

The Service and repair definitely does, and the Owners Workshop looks to cover, it has bits for the SR in it.
The only petrol one that was different was the 1l as that was an OHV chain driven block, all the rest were OHC and timing belt driven. Chassis and all ancillary electrical fittings were the same.

Yes, I regularly do the same, it's a very inspiring thread.
Only trouble I have with spot weld bits is that they blunt quite easily - I was removing a sill from my Vauxhall project and the last few were very noticeably harder work than the first few. So it's worth trying to get the knack even if it's just to sharpen a bit you've bought.
