My son has a similar situation, he's got a rescue dog from Spain, a Sabueso Espanol, bred as a hunting dog, now more of a couch potato, insurance companies won't touch him.

I’ve tried several times to get insurance but as soon as I tell them it’s a working dog, they just say no. I’ve been told to lie but I’d be the person caught out

These "cone things" - when I go to vets - I take one with me (we got loads from previous visits).

Might as well save some money and reuse them!

The "cone of shame" won't work with our dog, his neck's too long (Whippet-X) so he has what looks like an extra wide collar which stops him bending his neck.

Mines in a baby grow type outfit to stop her licking the stitches. You need to make sure its undone everytime she needs the loo or your in a world of trouble

Absolutely, I felt very guilty as my mom had to wait over a year for a hip replacement as we could not afford private, I felt like the dog was getting better treatment

I'd laugh but it's not funny for a bit of plastic, and we have two. Evie the Cockerpoo was spade recently, out lass bought her a donut to wear instead. Didn't bother her jot.


A lot more dignifying for the animal aswell. Nicknamed the Ammopoo

Try one on a patterdale. It was in pieces by the time the truck was out the vets car park

my spaniel broke his leg this year, had to be pinned and plated, 3 hour operation, cost 10k. Insurance covered 7k

My new knees didn't cost that . That's taking the urine and playing on your sympathy.

daughters whippet dog got ran over as a pup and knacked is back leg got it amputated for 500 quid and its fine now it can still run at 30mph and catch rabbits has a go at hares but there a bit fast for it

Ditto with our whippets, but we have an inflatable ring of shame that works. They look even more woeful with that on!

Here's mine not impressed with being shaved or sliced open. I don't think she would have put up with the collar of shame.

here to castrate a dog or cat is €125 euro's.....thought that was expensive.....girls are double, bit more work tho.....
watched my uncle doing lambs....easy peasy.....
thankfully our B Collies haven't broken anything.....
we brought our Bengal cat with us and it promtly got attacked by a neighbours dog.....
shattered lower jaw.....the only place that would attempt to fix it was in Athens and a starting cost of €15,000.........
they said if it dont work they'd remove her lower jaw complete and we'd havetofeed her liquids......
I'm afraid we let her go.....still have nightmares about loosing her...she followed me everywhere....getting upset now.....

As spots such a scavenger she polished off nearly all her food,felt sorry for her being unable to clear the bowl completely so took it off for 15 minutes.
Amusingly her bark is now amplified slightly by the cone.
