Found myself hanging around Leith Docks today (ON A JOB!)
And noticed one of the big pipe laying ships operated by Subsea Seven was in,and what's more, they were spooling!
So I took some pics. I'm not sure on the pipe size; maybe 7", maybe a bit more. It's really hard to tell from a distance. Anyway, it's rigid, welded and coated steel pipe, but they just wind it on to a great big spool, take it out to sea, lay it, and connect the ends to, er, things.
Sorry, couldn't get closer, didn't have a pass.
