Converting Clarke 160T to Euro Connector

That's the brothers xj600, I have a 99 R1 and a vj21 rgv250 with a 22 engine and cr box :)

Why won’t it work on the 300?

My understanding is that the powcon 300ss is basically an arc machine and is constant current and not really suited for mig welding with, were as the 300sm can be either constant current or constant voltage. Its an option on the front panel and is better suited for mig welding especially were spray transfer is required when welding thicker aluminium

If you go for a separate psu then might pay to read through the SIP section on the mods done on them as if your psu does not shut off sharply then you will get run-on when you release the trigger, causing the weld wire to stick in the weld pool. Think some have tried psu's from Hong Kong (ebay...

If you are after a cheap "try it out" solution this is the one I bought;
Not brilliant but works as a proof of concept.

My MIG alrady had a switch to change to spool gun, nothing complicated it just switches the motor feeed from the motor to a socket on the front. This gun already comes with the plug wired up just need a socket and a switch on the MIG end. Comes in handy for purging the gas as well.

I tried a separate psi, using the mig speed control beat it hands down.

One downside I've found so far is that I can't properly use the Synergic mode as the wire rollers are a different size and I expect the the motor gearing is different so the wire speed is different. I will investigate more at some point and I expect that if it's a bit too fast I can slow it down with a high wattage resistor to lower the voltage. If I can find a high power wirewound pot I should be able to trim the speed manually. Alternativley I can forget the Synergic setting and set it up manually
Whilst my first attempts of alu welding wern't pretty they were reasonable. The spool gun worked fine it was just my lack of skill that made a mess.

That looks like a miller clone, ready to use out of the box. I could only find uncabled or cabled without the socket, so good find.

Yes synergetic would likely need to be same brand, but I dont have a fancy mig with that problem..

Without a fancy synergetic, I'd be happy to never use a standard mig torch again. Much prefer using a spool gun.

Spool guns are ok when filled with alloy wire but if you put a spool of steel/stainless in they they soon get heavy and you will want the normal torch back.
Best way is to add the spool gun as a switchable extra so you can keep the original torch connected as well for use on steel

Depends on how often you need to switch etc. I see no reason to use a spool gun unless you're welding alli?
Actually, scrap that. If you're making trailers etc a long linered mig feed would be hassle I guess?
