It's the log splitter, but i'd have thought a 3kg head would have had a shorter handle, if the snapped one is 36" it should do. I wouldn't even think about trying to repair the old one, it will let go sooner or later (probably sooner) and could go anywhere.
Zoro has various handles, no idea which would fit.
Kennedy buy their handles from Carters and some of their hammers from Gibsons, your right about the faithful though.Third one is a pick axe handle, so that can be crossed off the list.
The log splitter handle is Faithfull brand, and may not be the best.
Kennedy stuff is acceptable.
Same here, sledge, maul, mattock, fiskars axes, all fb handles and no breaks - or shrinkage probsI replaced them with fiberglass handles, and they're great.
There was a smallApea sized dint in the handle but Im not sure how it got there. I split a lot that day but I dont remember even once, over swinging or hitting the handle like that, anyway it was small and not the reason it split. Not a bad idea I may try it.Just a suggestion. A few layers of bicycle inner tube wrapped around a wooden handle near the axe head will absorb a lot of shock if your aim is off a bit.
Last one I did I mixed some Araldite in before I put the wedges in, every little helps. That handle you've bought is ok, and the gap will disappear with the wedges and stop the head coming off.
I'm not saying not to do it, but i've fitted thousands of handles to British standard and never used glue. The wooden wedge spreads the shaft and is responsible for holding it on the steel wedges are fitted to stop the wooden wedge from coming out.Last one I did I mixed some Araldite in before I put the wedges in, every little helps.
