I like many no doubt pick up splinters on a daily basis in the course of my job. The biguns are no problem they can be pulled with those little tweezers on my swiss army knife, no its those ghost ones that you cant see but catch on everything.

Well i think i've hit on something for there withdrawal, masking tape rubbed over them seems in my experience to draw most. Dont know if its a new idea but give it a go it might save a bit o swearing. Just thought i'd pass it on. Be interested to hear of any other removal methods.

Same method I use.

If the end of the splinter is standing just proud of the skin, i find the jaws of a vernier caliper grips them nicely.

Yep, that's exactly what I do. You can find it with feel using the fixed jaw then slide the moving jaw up to grip it.

Aye you're right Brightspark them brasstards are the worst by far even if your fingers are as hard as gandhi's flip flops they'll find a way in, that where the tape comes in

I have a carbon fibre splinter deep in the index finger of my right hand that's been in there for 30 years, if I am on holiday and my hands are spotlessly clean you can see it, about 8mm long, under the skin but I gave up trying to dig it out about 20 years ago.
Chances are it will be buried with me!

You clearly have a condition known as "Girls hands" When they have hardened up you will be able to stop a javelin in mid flight

Fine pointed tweezers and good magnification, for most splinters, and a thin, extremely sharp-pointed sewing needle with even better magnification for literally digging out the really tiny splinters.

Metal splinters? Luxury! Best splinter i ever had was an oak one, I got it while raking a garboard seam out of an old boat. The seam rake slipped out & my hand scraped down the side of the keel, a splinter went in under my second finger nail & came out at the first knuckle, about an inch and a half long.
I was already sitting down under the boat & called to my oppo, "can you bring me the pliers", he bought them over & went white when he saw the splinter.
I got hold of the fat end & whipped it out quick. Didnt half smart i can tell you.

I find cuticle pliers are far better than nail clippers. If the splinter is too deep, you can 'Man Up' and hack away at the surrounding skin until splinter is grippable.
