Splicing cable.

I have never had a problem with scothlocks inside the car on good multistranded cable i.e. grater then 1mm sqd, would never use them outside as they would corrode. soldering is good but can make the cable brittle as copper does not like being heated above 90 deg C it changes the composition of the metal. the other method would be an inline crimp, but you need to make sure the bare copper is crimped and no the insulation, and you need to used the correct tool for the crimp. if doing outside i.e. underneath the car then it has to be really well sealed as it is subject to salt water spray etc

Crimp terminal ends onto the wires cant remember the name of them but they are a metal sheath to spread the pressure out along 10mm or so

I have recently repaired the wires on friends bmw E61 tailgate, common failure and had a bad attempt on it previously

I used the pre soldered heat shrink, I also always twist the wires together so they are facing each other (not a big twist to one side, so the wire stays straight)

Never used them before but will use them again

Never heard of this stuff before. I'm pretty useless at soldering so try to avoid it, but this might provide a solution for those odd times when there's no alternative for a neat job.

I usually twist the wires together with a length of thin fluxed solder, wrap in aluminium foil and a quick blast with a pen type soldering iron.
Bloke I learnt off used fag paper and a match, but we were stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Luckily, I'd bought a roll of solder the day before, and left it in the van (And was still there, two years later when I scrapped it)

Scotchblocks like above in a sealed junction box would be perfectly fine and prob easiest.

Scotchloks like these are good for tapping in to a single wire...just press on them.like scotchblocks but they're filled with gel to seal the join. Bit bulky for 8/9wires tho

Looks like a bigger version of the gell crimps used by the telecoms bods and shoddy builders to extend cat5 when a run comes up too short.

Probably...Also used to set up a perimeter fence on robot lawnmowers. Took me a while to work out why I was getting gardening equipment suggestions on Amazon after buying those!

We solder, heatshrink, scotchkote, putty, big heatshrink, scotchkote, self amalgamating tape, more scotchkote and finally pvc tape to tidy it all up. Resulting in a waterproof sausage suitable for the deep blue sea!

Don't forget a couple of layers of Denso tape just to make sure, never had water problems with cable connectors on the radio towers filthy stuff though.

Just each to there own I guess, everyone does things slightly different.

If only someone bought out self amalgamating heat shrink sheets that can be wrapped and stuck then shrunk would make a fortune.
