"Primer In" would be fine, Mac. That way I can chose which way to go.

I think the only changes to the Enfield for .410 is to open out the barrel, open the chamber so it is no longer tapered and to adjust the headspace by changing the end of the bolt for another piece of a suitable size. This one has a plate welded in to keep the gun down to a single breech loaded shell. The mag is suitably cut down.

Made this during the week for my father. .50cal round flattened out for the main body and I tried to re-use a .303 Lee Enfield round for the centre but it was too corroded so I lathed a replica up from Brass bar and soldered in a blob to replicate the primer. Fluted the petals with a pair of rounded-off needle nosed pliers. An hour well spent.
Next time I'll try to find some better .303 or maybe engrave it with something appropriate.

if you make any more you could try some clear red lacquer on one, might be a good effect

Same here, out of interest how did he want. I was in Germany this time last yr, in a very large [and expensive ]gun shop. About 15 WWII firearms many German, but a surprising amount of English, esp .303

We were in one in Tallinn a few years back, lots of Soviet hardware including full-on machine guns on bipods!
They also had Lugers, PPKs, P38s and a broomhandle Mauser which IIRC was 300 Euro. If only we hadn't been on a plane...

Never fired a broomhandle, but did fire a luger a few times and liked it, even though the recoil was snappy. I found it very light in front.

Reminds me of a story from my youth...

Over at the farm run by the parents of an old schoolfriend of mine called Kerry. He had 2 young stepsons who were bickering whilst Kerry and I were taking potshots with a 12-bore at fenceposts and some old numberplates. Kerry asked them why they were making so much noise with their squabbling. "He says that shotgun is bigger than the one Uncle Martin has under the floor in the bathroom back in Castlereagh but I know it is nowhere near the size!"

Ummmm....better pretend I didn't hear that.

Iron (ferric) Nitrate.......... 6 ounces (Fe(III)(No3)3)
Sodium hyposulphite............ 6 ounces
Water
(use at 170F will speed up this reaction)

Evidently this is a recipe to stain Brass red. Might be worth a try.

Nah, a friend heads to africa to shoot cape buffalo on occasion. Me being into all things shooting cadged a few empties to sit on the shelf in the mancave.

Unlikely and a slight thread hijack but I'm after a pair of 30mm brass casings if anyone knows of some, want to make a pair of shot glasses for a close friend

Nice use of materials but is it appropriate to use spent bullet cases in a memorial to killed and injured servicemen?

I don't think so, I think it's very symbolic of something designed to take life being rendered useless for its purpose and repurposed into a tribute.

Have a look at the crosses etc at operating bases overseas, often made from 105mm brass shells

Brass from a 40/60 Bofors. I was the man on the "Go bang" button.

This one I made for myself.
'Cus I could.
British WW2 6lb tank round. Yes it made a mess of the Ford Mondeo.
