Speedy courier service??

Had a small parcel delivered yesterday. It contain an ESC for a brushless motor .... I didn't remember buying it! There was nothing on the yodel package to say who had sent it but it had come from yodel customer service.

The tracking said it had been 're-packed' due to damage to original. I contacted Yodel (eventually) but they could not tell me who sent it?? Anyway, I vaguely remembered ordering this so went onto my EBAY purchase history.

I bought this on 20th June last year, never received and price paid was refunded to me 3 weeks later ....so Yodel have had this for 9 months ... great service!!

For a start, I'd be happy for them to acknowledge they had the parcel after i dropped the F******* package off at their ParcelShop and obtained a receipt!!

Me too, I’ve sent and received loads of stuff with them but I guess it depends on your local hermes staff/depot

Ordered something from an online seller at the weekend, they use amazon for deliveries.First attempt at delivery was monday 9.10pm to a business address, no one there at that time of night.Second (failed) attempt was 1pm tuesday, five of us at work and I think I was in the yard at that time. Courier then sent it back to supplier. Don't know what happened but I made sure I got a full refund and will get it from elsewhere.

Fedex alternately worry me and then impress me -

11 days for expedited from Southt Carolina to Connecticut !
Picked up return to Manchester on a thursday . . .and came to collect it again on Friday . . . and then again on the Monday . . . it came back "fixed" two days ago - in knackered box, with "resealed by TNT" tape all over it - delivered by the same plain clothed Fedex man in the un-marked (well, apart from the dents, rust, missing bumper) Fedex van who turned up twice to try to collect it.

But managed to get me a hemi inlet valve from Arizona to Yorkshire in three days

I have found all courier services to be very 'random' with no apparent delivery standard.
Parcel force have been great for me until recently when my screwfix order was five days late...... They claimed not to be able to find my house, yet have delivered here many times before!
UPS were hopeless recently. They were three weeks late delivering from Poland and then claimed to have been out to deliver yet didn't leave a card. This allegedly happened three times. Called up and complained, driver got a telling off and my package arrived the following day! The tracking system was useless too. Not accurate at all.
Hermes have been the most unreliable, lost stuff I've sent then tried to refuse to cover its value despite having 'insurance'. Surprisingly I purchased a tungsten grinder from eBay and asked the Scottish guy I bought from not to use Hermes. He posted with Hermes and to my surprise it arrived in the correct time frame without damage!
Used TNT week before last and the '24 hour' service turned out to be five days! Tracking didn't work either.

Just have to pick one, pay your money and hope for the best!!

Work use various couriers to ship stuff around the world pretty quick - although I'm not sure about one at the moment - a component sent to a plant in the UK . . . got delivery confirmation yesterday . . . to a plant in Australia! eh???

I used to work for a cigarette machinery builder, part of a well known tobacco company - to show how much money there is/used to be in that industry, it wasn't unknown for someone to be flown via Concorde to the USA with the part as luggage!

My Fedexed valve surprised me as I'd not paid for expedited, instead paid for a cheap delivery by the 18th - it arrived 6 days early!

Ditto. It's the only option for me when sending, out here in the sticks, other than paying twice the price to Royal Mail.
Never had a parcel go astray and the local delivery guy (who is quite cute - he's in his 70s and drives around in his purple Citroen with his wife sitting knitting in the passenger seat) is great.

BIB, Having worked at the airport and seen how luggage is treated by the loaders it is still not without risk.

To be fair, I've carted all sorts of things around the world over the last 22 yrs - fragile items like high wattage bulbs for use with a high speed camera, large items like retracting hosereels (well, it was cheap in Walmart - close to 20 yrs later its still retracting in my garage ), bits of cars, bits of machines, empty beverage cans (so I could look at the damage to the sides better back in work) and I've only once had a suitcase damaged badly enough to need to go complain - pack stuff so its protected by all the soft stuff around it and other than when it gets turned inside out by TSA, its usually still pretty much the same when I get it back. Expect it to be chucked around, and you won't be surprised.

I do sometime wonder what people opening my case sometimes think - jammed in my steel capped boots have been all sorts of bits of equipment, held in by underpants and socks . . .

Same here. When I used to work in the U.S. I'd buy tools online and have them delivered to the office (QCTP springs to mind!), and also buy stuff from Home Depot (way better choices than the UK Big Sheds) and then pack them in underwear and transport them home in my suitcase.

If only that option had been available a few years ago we'd have done it.

Had a system installed onto a ship and the client decided they wanted a duplicate system as a back-up and a few of the front-end RF components in a spares box as well. Well it turned out the UK didn't have any in stock but they were at the main HQ in Texas except they wouldn't ship it on anything faster than a couple of weeks delivery.

So we cancelled a director's flight back from visiting some other clients - sent him down to Texas, couldn't get a fast enough flight back so he hired a Mustang to drive to another airport in a different state to get back to the UK. Then a colleague met him at Heathrow, picked up a box roughly the size of an old 3.5" hard drive from him. Zoomed off down to Southampton where it was put on a plane to Gibraltar and then transferred across to a waiting chopper which just managed to catch the ship before it got out of range - all to drop off about £100 worth of components . Was worthwhile because although they weren't required it was sheer luck that they didn't blow up the ones they were to replace given where they installed the system.
