According to several googled solicitors, a typing mistake, or spelling error on the document (including name and date of birth) is not a defence to dispute the ticket. Especially if you sign the paperwork, and do not mention an error.
Contact them, tell them the error, but please don’t end up as a star of a ‘Police, Action, Crash, You’re Nicked’ tv programme due to barrack room lawyers.
Good advice, but "Smith" instead of "Jones" is hardly a typing error, whereas "Smoth" instead of "Smith" would be.
EDIT when I was having a problem with some loan sharks the summons came as "Mr Fred Bloggs AKA Mr Fred Blogs" to cover alternative spellings. PS - I won!
