hey all,

Just got a tig blast in the eyes, seems my speedglas doesn't like pulse pulse was set to 30-90 it is rated for tig down to 20amp, i think the pulse tricks it cause it works fine for 20-30 amp not pulsed.

anyway what do you guys use and what do you think of it? and how much does it cost. was looking at the eyetech 2 5-13 but can't fand anywhere that says the min amps? also quite expensive my speedglas is the 9002D £80 three years ago. hmm

Isn't the battery light coming on? (only checking!)
Well...since you already have the helmet you could buy another filter for it? 9002V or 9002X will do....fleabay maybe? But yes, the filter is the helmets most expensive part....

yeah, i'm kicking my self cause just after i ordered my tig i did see a filter for £50 on ebay a 9002V new, but saw on the site that it says they are suitable but not optimised for 1-20a tig dunno what the hell that means :/ but i do really like my speedglas, so i'l do abit more hunting/waiting see if a filter turns up

haha, i dunno it seems to think my 9002d isn't much good at anything on there, even tack welding :s seems fine to me apart from the low amp/pulse thing.

I wined and annoyed them to give me the 9100 graphic edition but......no way! It will probably be the 9002X filter that will come with it...

nice pretty sure the battery is ok at the moment though could probably do with a new front shield though, might make it work abit better, my tig goes to 3amps though so i should probably find a different mask or filter i guess.

does the 9000 series filter fit the 9100 mask? :S

Autodarkening lenses are designed to respond to rapid changes in light levels so they will work in a very wide variety of ambient light levels, from a dim corner in an old building to full sunlight. They darken OK when the arc is struck and will stay dark as long as the light they receive flickers, which happens quite a bit with stick and MIG welding. The arc from a good DC TIG welder flickers so little it is possible for the lens to un-darken soon after the arc has been struck. One solution is to turn the sensitivity to maximum and also set the delay to maximum. TIG welder manufacturers would do well to design-in a little bit of intentional high speed flicker, which won't affect the weld but will result in the helmets reacting properly. Another solution with DC constant current is possible if the TIG allows rapid pulsing (at least 10Hz, and higher is better), just set the welder to pulse and set max and min currents to slightly different values. This will generate a little bit of intentional flicker and should reliably keep the lens dark.

These lenses will darken and stay dark reliably when using AC TIG.

yeah, i think it's more just the low amps at the bottom of the pulse with this though, it works fine at 25-30amp dc not tried lower but when it was on 20-30 90-100 ish pulse it goes light on the low pulse, think i'll look for a mask rated for 3amps the minimum my tig goes down to

You know, a dirty front shield can cause the occasional flash too! If there's dirt just in front of the sensors you will get a flash....happens to me a lot, it reminds me to wipe the shield clean!

Yeah, i'm well chuffed with the Adflo but Sjeese, does my head and neck hurt!!
I always have trouble adjusting myself to a new mask! If you wear it occasionally it isn't that bad but when you're stuck under the bucket for 8 hours....

Yes, the flip up front is very handy but you're right it does add quite a lot of weight! I still have trouble adjusting to the new mask... after 4 hours it feels like my head is about to fall off...but you know, i don't want to complain it's already a big step (expensive too) that they gave us those new masks...

ahh i'm sure you'll get used to the mask before long, my first mask was one of those cheap non auto ones and it was about twice the weight of my auto :S that was when i was about 11 heh i do remember an achy neck, and i wasn't doing it all day :/

haha i don't know any other girls/women that could hold up a convocation about welding let alone welding masks! :P

though i have got my sister to try arc mig tig and oxy acetylene heh
