Speedglas helmats???

Hi just going to buy a weldinf mask/helmet for MIG welding.

witch 1's would you say are good for mig welding???

i have been looking at speedglas masks, do you think they are good and worth the price? or is there 1's better priced and better?

I've only ever used speedglas from when i up-graded from a fixed shade£15 helmet back in the good old days!.In my opion your better off with the ones with the sensivity settings speedglas 9002v or a 9002x with the bigger viewing area both v good and cheap on some well known auction sites!

The big advantage Speedglas have over most competitors is that the batteries are replaceable. Not that uncommon for them to outlast the solar powered ones by a factor of 3 or 4.

I was a die-hard fan of the esab eyetech, but having recently bought a speedglas helmet, i reckon they are the dogys danglies.

Spose it depends on what you do - diy welder/occasional welder - probably not worth the cost, Frequent welder/trade - yes, worth the cost, reliable, etc. - go for it.

I've had the same Speedglas helmet for well over 10 years. I do not remember the model but it is the only one available from my LWS at the time I got it. I believe the shades are 5 (off), 3 (on), 10 (welding). It is not a variable shade nor does it have windows and such, just a simple auto darkening hood. I have no reason to want to replace it with anything else. If the quality is still the same they are great. I think you can buy the same helmet for less now than I had to pay for this one years ago, mine does not carry the 3M logo, so the company may have changed hands. Some of the best money I have spent on my welding hobby. It is a top of the line helmet in my opinion.

Ahh...Mr.Speedglas, seen your listings on that "well known auction site". You cannot sell them at that price!!, unless you're intent on making a loss...or knocking em off from work

no my wife takes them to the post office as my pushbike is used to power my computer

anyways very very nice mask never failed on me once very comfortable too
