Speedglas G5 fakes?

Looking to purchase a complete G5-01vc setup new.

Doing some searching as you would I found craigmore to be the cheapest online big retailer apox £1460

And thought I would look at the ebay thinking there might be some decent companies with a little off that.

Found a number of sellers with supposedly new complete setups for well under a grand?

what's the score with these, are they fakes? ex youtube review examples? or just genuinely good deals?

look at the sellers location ,, Ive bought a few new speedglas lenses off folk , folk who live in say ,,, Barrow in Furness as an example , sort of ship building grey market items ,,,
if you get my drift.

to be sure of what your getting its best to buy from a authorized 3m distributor. ive also seen the high discounted stuff on ebay and always questioned if its genuine. perhaps its stolen merchandise. maybe its not brand new. maybe contact the seller and ask where they got it. are they authorized distributor. perhaps get the serial number from the lens and cross check it on the phone with speedglas. all my stuff was bought from authorized distributors

1300 your dollars is about 1800usd which is about the going rate for new g5 01vc from authorized seller. you may find some a bit higher or a bit less but 1/2 that price i would be suspicious

i get what your saying. a legit company wont put a price on safety gear but that kit wont hardly need anything on a regular basis, mine has thousands of hours and only needed common wear items. front protection plates ,adflo filters , adflo battery at the 3yr mark. how often that stuff needs replaced is highly dependant on the envirnment. flux core in a garage may clog the filter in a week. outside it may not clog for two months. inside protection plates rarely need changed. head gear parts ,breathing tube, blower motor, has never need replaced. now if you run over it with your car , drop it from a tall building , let your dog chew on it , then yes you will be buying new parts more often.
for the last couple yrs i been running two adflo batteries. one in the kit and a fresh charged one at all times. then theres no down time. for daily use i recomend atleast two adflo batteries.

The latest G5 has a list price of £1500 or so but I can get one directly from the 3m rep for under a grand.
I expect anyone walking into a welding shop with a debit card could pick one up for not much over £1k as well..

One thing to watch for though is what adf you are actually getting. There are quite a few versions apart from just the viewing area. (Ie versions that all look identical in a photo from the outside)
Some have multi colour modes in the adf, some have bluetooth and so on There is about £500 difference across the list prices for the various different versions.

Also, watch out for the 'bundles' that come with spare filters etc. If the dealer/private seller has added a load of extras in then it probably represents good value for money.
The original 'bundle' kits from 3m (at rrp) actually work out more expensive than buying the extras/spares separately

there is no mandatory retail price set by 3m. each authorized seller is able to make their own price. if you check the 3m site and look at the list of approved sellers youll see various prices on the same model.
theres only two lenses that the g5 01 can be purchased with. vc or tw. i can go into the fine details of both if you want (im very familiar with both) or you can read up on them yourself at your convenience.
about the highly discounted gear being offered for sale. im not saying dont buy it. i would just do research to be sure its legit. if theres a warranty problem 3m may ask for recepts to verify who sold the gear. if its sketchy you might be denied a replacement
