Spark plug thread repair. 14mm

Any thoughts / experiences re the various systems ? . I'm leaning towards the Wurth Time-sert system.

I have done loads of helicoils, mostly m10x1. On many bikes you'll find that timeserts are not possible.

Steel insets from a Snap-On kit here, I expect they are similar/same as time serts.

with the price of decent kits and the chance of messing up why not see what local engineering shops would charge

had mine done for £25 a few years back , couldnt have bought a proper kit for that

Depends how often it happens, when we were kart racing you would be changing plugs and having barrels off engines all the time, so we would helicoil commonly used ally threads as a matter of course. If it's a one off repair then yes, give it to a reputable garage, the last thing you need is swarf down the side of a piston chewing away at the cylinder wall.

I only work on generators though, not vehicles.

If the bolt or stud is going in and staying in then helicoil would be be ok, if its being fitted then removed then I would go for a timesert.As its a spark plug a timesert would be better.

Why do you say that Pete? I've always swore by timeserts and at helicoils...
