Not sure I agree on your assessment of the Challenger disaster - i remember watching it live on the telly and yes it was shocking because there were civilians on board but it wouldn’t have been any different had there been purely military people on there. Not to mention the amount of money and effort that went up in smoke I think it’s inconceivable that they would have just resumed flights without a full enquiry and knowing the root cause - the fact there was civilian on bird had very little to do with the outcome.
Started watching at approx 22.12. Took around 2 mins to go from west to east and out of sight. It’s back over later tonight I believe
I’m sorry Robbie but most of what you wrote is just plain wrong. In some ways yes and some ways no, the only thing similar i can compare it too was the raf testing the engines for concord shoe horned into a victor, the prototype taxied down the run way and crashed and blew up killing pilot and co pilot and making a right mess of the run way, the retired raf fire fighter who gose too my church who i got the story from and was the first on scene said the investigation was done with by the next morning, the runway fixed by the following evening and the new prototype arrived ready for test the following morning. I can only assume that it would have been the same with nasa if it had been an all military crew, they may have waited a bit longer as they have a more public image too concider but even still couple of weeks tops concidering it only took them 48hrs too figure out what was wrong from looking at the other space shuttles.
We did the sameSat out in the garden watching live on the laptop and keeping an eye out, realising we weren't going to see it to the eye.
