Source of used batteries?

I have one of these

I rarely use it now but its fantastic portable light, but I can't find the charger so took the battery out and my Aldi intelligent charger just flashed 8v then after being on all day flashed an 9.7v and an empty battery symbol so I assume its had it? So a new one is just over £40 so any one know a cheap source of these as I just cant justify spending this on it

40 quid isnt a bad price for a 20ah tbh.

Get a 7 for about 16 quid if you hunt around

I just dont use it enough to warrant spending £40 on it though, years ago local carbon had a bloke who sold them second hand from UPS's not seen him for a bit though. Might just put it in the auto jumble pile, have you seen how much they are new? £800!!!!

Anyone that does maintenance on alarm systems come by these all the time, normally swapped for new on a maintenance program whether they need it or not. Got one off a mate for my small leccy start genny and that's still going strong five years after he gave it to me.

Something like a tx9-bs?
Probably get a couple half used ones easy enough from a local bike dealer.

When you do use the light, how long do you need it to run for? i.e. do you really need a 20Ah battery. Since it's an LED unit, it probably doesn't take much current. Do you have any power tools that run 12v or even "10.8v" batteries, be they NiCad, NiMH, or Li-ion, that you could "borrow" a battery from?

I think size would be an issue the whole lamp is built around the battery

Now I do wonder if I could make a Makita adaptor fit on to it as in the past I cut the charge lead and connected it to a car battery, it would be nice to keep as is as it a very useful thing when needed

Valid point that but really I'm not so sure. I can't get a jist of the size of the 20ah battery.

Could probably get some 18650 or 20650 lithium in a holder to plug and play. That way can use it as a drop in battery pack,

Try a BIG mobility scooter supplier as they might have a used battery which might work for your purpose but not good enough for a scooter

Can you find the specs for the lamp and see what the quoted run time is?
If it will do 10hrs on a 20a then it should last an hour on a 2a which will be cheap as chips.

Alternatively if you are anywhere near Frome I have one that looks about that size, not been used for ages but I can chuck the tester on it and see if it's any good?

Maybe the lithium ones are so light that they fall or get blown over....maybe it's better to have the weight of lead-acid ?

remember those million candle power flash lights......mine 2 r converted to gell batt's, now converted to LED bulbs, recharge every 6months, needed or not.....
when i rewired them (the orig wires were to short) I also poked out 2 wires direct to the bat terms so as easy to charge form outside.....
they get used a lot on the farm......no street lights here......

Motorbike batteries aren't that big and look very similar in size to the picture you posted. I have a couple of servicable batteries removed from my bikes when they were replaced for lithium. You're welcome to them if you're passing along the M62 anytime soon towards Leeds. I can take the measurement if you like.
