i want an old radio for my '60's camper ,its got to be period,so thats mainly lw/mw ,problem is ,is it likely to work once the digital switch commences[whenever],of course i may find one with fm,also is vhf the same? thanks in anticipation of help.

The digital switch over isn't going to happen any day soon so wouldn't worry, but if it does then it will definitely not work along with millions of other radio sets in the world. If remember rightly from my collage days VHF (very high frequency) is just the old name for FM (frequency modulated)

As said i wouldn't worry about the digital switchover, ain't gonna happen anytime soon if ever as the way DAB is used in the UK is already out of date, totally pants, out of date, power hungry, out of date and pants. Oh, it's also out of date and pants. More seriously if they ever switch off analogue you can continue to use an old radio with a DAB - FM gizmo that's kinda like a set top box for radios
How rich are you feeling? If the answer is very then keep your eyes open for a Becker 7948 which is basically an all singing & dancing modern unit with bluetooth and navigation designed to look like their origional Mexico from the '60s. Unfortunatly Becker packed in aftermarket car audio and their stuff often fetches more second hand than it went for new. They are that good.
There are a few other retro styled things around too and, as said, you can also get old radios upgraded so they become a controller for a modern headunit that's hidden away for example http://www.tadpoleradios.co.uk/ If you went this route and want digital radio make sure the set is compatible with DAB+ as well as the low quality DAB currently about. Most new ones should be but older DAB radios won't work with DAB+ and AFAIK the UK still won't commit to one or the other

Best channel I found on DAB was Birdsong but it went offair. I fitted a Retrosounds radio in a friends Interceptor to replace the 8 track, had all the modern gizmos and inputs that he wanted. Came in black or chromed plastic with a choice of fascias, all a bit cheap looking so I reused the 8 track fascia to make it look a little better. Thought it was overpriced for what it was but he was very pleased with it. They have a better range available now looking at the website.
