Your right, but the constraint is that the control cabinet for the router is wall mounted and hardwired to the machine so limits it's placement.

I've gone for 18mm MDF for the walls, well over the top I know but this more for it's sound deadening properties than anything, the MDF will be painted and sealed and I will be wrapping the vapour barrier around under the bottom of the sheet to provide a break from the floor.

i would have it on stilts as keeps the water away from its edges but this is up too you tech has come along way that we can cut 3x2 plastic or 4x2 plastic

then theres no rotting of the woods

then all the front needs is a plastic skirting board or architrive as its something id use with prefab garages when building an internal wall for them

I’m not worried about water coming up as the garage is built well above level. It’s more a concern about the cold floor causing condensation under the wood. This shouldn’t be an issue with the bottom of the sheet being wrapped.

I lined the single brick skin garage with over lapping tar paper fstapled at the top collar all round then added the batons as a frame at 16 inch centres , wedged them up to the rafters then gave the floor two coats of thick water proofing rubberized bitumen paint , finely blinding / dusting the first coat once dry with a bit of cement powder to stop me sticking to it too much .

Then screeded the floor with a PVA mix in the dosing water to lock the bottom rail in & water proof the floor .

Once the floor was set , infilled the battens with cut to width & length rolls of Knauf rock mineral wool, laid all the cables in steel conduit & added sockets , switch boxes in the walls & boarded the ceiling in foil backed board cutting out strip light tube boxes in the roof void , then put 10 inches of roof void insulation in . That done , foil backed the walls properly especially around the cold spot areas of the double glazed windows & doors . Feathered all joints in scrim & jointing compound out of a five litre bucket jobby. Finally giving everything a roller coat of one coat board paint finish before painting the room baby pink ( we had two cans left after decorating our new daughters room ) .

We used the smallest Baxi Bermuda balanced flue mains gas heater to heat the 20 x 10 foot x 8 foot high space but only ever on ignition flame level for it got too warm even when we had three weeks of snow on the ground . The floor was light coloured preserved T&G laminate on a foil foam underlay .
Inside the mancupboard we couldn't hear the busy 24/7 main line London to up north railway some 300 mtrs away , not any traffic noise nor any emergency vehicle sirens off the dual carriage way 200 mtrs away nor traffic on the local ring road that passed by us some 30 mtrs away .
When we came to sell the place several years later the punters were gobsmacked at the quality of the build .. we got full asking price from the third viewing within minutes of them coming to view , which was well above the estate agents cheating valuation.
