Have a look at my recent post on the Clarke section, I did just that on my 160TM. I got fed up of the short lead & extended it with 25mm 3m long. When I removed the grommet through the case I found it was already cut out for a 10/25 dinze plug. Total cost of cable, Dinze plug & clamp was about £20 http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/small-160tm-mod.61208/
The original cable turned out to be only 10mm, so 25mm has got to be ok
on a 155A welder a 10/25 dinze plug is plenty, tho dose it really need a dinze i probaly wouldnt bother. you'd be fine with cabel as small as 16mm the welder will overheat long before the cabel.
just measured the dinse plug on the tig return lead
and its 8.90mm so thats 10/25 then.
@dannyp , TBH it doesnt really need one. but the cable could do with being longer.
if it was same length as torch then it would be much better.
im not bothered with doing a euro conversion ATM as the torch is fine.
just would be nice to get a longer return lead.
and while im messing about with that, it will be better to just dinse it.
Hi Tornado, fitting the dinze plug made an easy way to connect the new cable. Cut the old cable short inside the case & fit a lug/eyelet on the end, this bolted direct on the back of the dinze socket. The advantage for me is I can disconect it & coil it away
25mm That's what I used, I looked on R.....s web, (can't mention the name without causing upset) suitable for 150amps but thin enough to be manageable. With the 10mm fitted I wonder if there was a voltage drop when on the higher settings. If you fit the same plug as the tig, is the lead long enough on this as you can't use both at once? Then all you would need is a dinze socket & a cable lug for the rear.
got it fitted, was simply, and picked up a 16mm lug from TLC today.
and Cobbler was spot on about the front panel of the welder.
once you remove the gland that the lead goes throu.
a 10/25 dinse panel socket fits perfectly...
haven't got a dinse return lead for it yet.
as im looking at getting a 3mtr one for the MIG
and a 3mtr twist electrode holder for the TIG
but if i need to do any mig'ing i can use the one from the TIG welder.
Good to know it went as planned, it looks as the front panel is punched out on the other sizes as I suspected. I think probably the same front is used on the gas/no gas ones with the plugs for a polarity change. I found it good because I could remove & coil up the lead & put it on the top of the machine out of the way, more important when there is 3 metres kicking about.
