I have seen much better versions with the hammer driven from a flexible arm. As the hammer is stroked a few times it builds up tremendous whiplash and power. This one looks a bit dead in comparison.

We used to let the girls from the equine college know when we were going to use the hammer so that they could ride their horses past to train them not to panic.
How much do they usually go for, in good and in bad shape? Surely it's a no brainer to fix it up, then sell it.I've got an old Blacker B but it doesn't get much use any more, it was worn when I got it and now in dire need of a full re-bush on the arms and head. As I use a pneumatic hammer these days the Blacker really wants selling-but its hard to know weather to sell it as is or do all the work first. I've seen them go for silly money online when they are nice and tight. It sits in a pit 5' deep on tractor tyres and sleepers and still rattles the bedrock, never been one for the delicate forgings the Blackers, although my mate used to be able to top an egg on his, the next hit would scramble it..

I'd love oneTime = Money
I'de love to spend weeks restoring it to as new, but I fear it won't be well paid work and 3 kids to feed yadda yadda yadda, do you fancy a wee project mr maker?![]()
I'd love one.
Ahh, I missed that bitIf the base is seated in a 5' deep pit, that's hinting at weight and proportions of which I'm guessing your mother truly wouldn't be impressed with you for that purchase.![]()
It would be more likeSeeing your mums expression when you arrived would be a picture though, if you asked her if she fancied a run up North to pick up a hammer.![]()
Don't hold your breath but there may be a "Blacker B full restoration" project on here soon, I'm beginning to feel a bit nostalgic>>>>![]()
Water wheel probably. It's hard to tell in the video, what powers it?
If you fold the seats down it should slide into the back of your mums car no problem! There's one on eBay at the moment, it can't be moved back and fourth so I'd imagine it's a smaller one but, including the sleepers it's on, it's go to be 7' or 8' long. I don't think I'm gonna bid.
