Built in tank would be a necessity with 90 horses, 4 stroke a lot easier on the pocket, you reckon it will get up on the plane fully loaded with 60 horses??
that sounds heavy to me. My hovercraft including engine, fan and drive gear is half that weight.
It's mostly plywood with some glass fibre.
Could you reduce the weight with fibre matting & resin over foam? I would have thought a hull with seats and cockpit, around 12' x 6', could be lifted by one man, say 150-180 pounds? Yours is slightly bigger but it'd still be an easy two man lift!
Why?
I had a 17.5' racing hull with a 90 2 stroke on the back which would do around 55mph and that never had a built in tank. Built in tanks can be a real pain in the rear ends (especially stainless ones) with condensation, and if you don't have quay side fuelling (which you pay through the nose for) its a pain as well.
I now have a 5.25m fast fisher type, that has a 50 4 stroke ( around 30 mph top speed) that wouldn't get on the plane with 5/6 adults, changed to a stainless prop which made it better. I have got on the plane with 6 adults now but it is hard going.
I was thinking about time I had a 6 metre RHIB bully, 100 hp 2 stroke, no built in tank, tanks and spare fuel took up far too much floor space along with 6 full sets of diving gear, twin sets and bail out bottles, proton magnetometer and, at times a compressor!!
I agree, built in tanks can be troublesome especially at end of a diving session, I've known a few of my mates have carb probs at start of new session with residual water left in built in tank!!..........
boat shone has place for removeable 17gln tank under console, has to be stainless or plastic ethenol eats all others. these are primarily comercial boats desined for north atlantic good glass thickness needed for chafe /every day wear and tear of rock coast. cores in comercial fish hulls can be problem and lead to expesive repairs console is corecell closed cell foam . weight was not a concern as ride and steady work platform being more concern.top speed around 35knots with 60hp cruising speed very good console in picture is 42"*32"[large sport fish size] and may hide true size
you can put your 12'*6' on the deck of this and walk around it . sides to high for diveing without platform. i was comercial sea urchin diver for 12 years 6 tanks,2dri suits spare stuff every where.and winter to boot
heres one in red, built as an open work skiff.will be powered by 30hp yamaha. the center console did 25mph with 4 men and case of beer with 50hp suzuki 4-stroke. next i'll be building one that came out of mold with marred finnish and will have to awlgrip it either jade mist green or aristo blue after heavy fairing i'll take pics.red one has 27gln fuel tank under deck
