Rose Jointing is indeed a correct thing to do and is often done on both rally and track carrs to improve feedback. Rose Jointing gear linkages is also common.
I've had to sort out a few dodgy bodges from previous owners of my pickup. The power steering pump was held on by a selection of odd bits of steel held together with pigeon crap, it wasn't even lined up properly so the belt was wearing very quickly. Thats the problem with owning a 400 year old motor that was never available in this country. I ended up importing a complete correct pump/brackets/pulley set from a guy in the USA.
