Some info I require

Hi guys, been a while since I've been on here, but I'm finding the need to start welding again.

I've done a search, but couldn't find the info I required.

The work I'm planning on doing is making up an exhaust for an engine transplant, and then probaly a few other bits and pieces. Nothing too heavy to start with.

I've looked around the site and gather that the Clarke 135te would be more than enough for this work, and I could also use the disposable bottles.

If I'm right in my plans above, then the question I need to ask is, will this welder be ok on a domestic power supply? Could I go bigger on a domestic supply?

That would be okay on a domestic supply. I only know this cos I've just bought a 160TE from weldequip and that's okay.

So going up to the 160 would be fine on a domestic supply. Thats good to know.

Need to find out what sort of material size the 160 can handle? Just for future reference, see if its worth the extra.

You'd be fine from a 13amp supply on the 160TE as they are still only a 150amp machine, they cheat a bit with the model number! So, the 160TE wouldn't weld much thicker but is wheel mounted with a refillable cylinder carrier on the rear, and supplied with the appropriate refillable gas regulator. You would have to spend extra converting the smaller machines up to refillable cylinders, and if you have any amount of work to do I would go straight onto refillable cylinders.

Thanks weldequip. I think for starts I'd just be looking to use the disposables. Am I right in thinking that the 160TE would need additional bits to enable the use of disposables?

If that is the case, then I'm wondering if to start off the 135 would be a better option so I can use the disposables straight away. I certainly don't forsee me doing so much welding that it requires large bottles.

If the wheels and bottle carrier are the only major differences (ok so some capability for welding) then I could do those additions as a project

You could run the 160TE on disposables with the addition of a canister & canister regulator @ around £20. To convert a smaller machine from disposables up to refillables would be around £40. If you only plan on doing odd jobs than the disposable set up should be fine.
