Some gas welding it took a while to get back into it

i like gas welding far neater and versatile than mig the more you do the quicker you get . used to do a lot but hadly done any for years . had to weld an exhaust pipe on to a manifold on my perkins diesel engine last year wasnt as fast but you dont loose it

Update on the lotus eleven finishing panels and sett

ing a few 100 5/32 monel rivets. I was recommended a LOBSTER air riveter and i won 3 in the end on ebay two smaller ones and one big one. stripped and changed the hydraulic oil what a brilliant tool well impressed the retail price of new is a little of putting but it has done the best part of a thousand rivets now without a hint of trouble.

Iv got a lobster air riveter it’s wasn’t cheap but never struggled with rivets

I use a Gesipa battery riveter and love it , but Ive never tried a Lobster air one , does it kick like the cheaper air ones , the Gesipa is silky smooth thats why I like it , I bought it when I was making a lot of flight cases .

Mine doesn’t either

I have a really cheap one about £30 from eBay and that has a bit of a kick but the blanks tend to get stuck in the ejector tube and the rivets seldomly seem to be flush like they should

the chaps that currently build them do tig brazing, tig and gas welding

I’m only used to tig but we weld brass at work and struggle like hell with impurities coming back through the welds

Still working on the eleven i had the opportunity to acquire a pre bent tube so i decided it was a good opportunity to make a new DeDion tube i did not realise how much work it would take all through the hot weatherstill done now just blasted this morning and primer waiting for it to dry
top coat. It took ages to get the endplates flat and the tracking set up it had moved 5mm each end pulled in so too much toe in but sorted now.
3.1/4 tube 80 thou thick

gas welding is therapeutic , It certainly teaches you the value of patience.

The car in my avatar uses a de-dion rear suspension too, they're mig welded and made from box section and some laser cut plates, the trick to having them true is once they're fabricated they go to a bloke with a very large mill who faces off both end plates so that they're 100% parallel.
