I'd be more worried about cooking with aluminium with no surface against acid erosion

I'm wondering if that's why the cement powder is applied to what will be the inner surface of the pot?

I would guess it's more to do with giving the inner face a smoother finish.

Thing is at the speed the aluminium will cool off I can't see much of a chemical reaction happening? Be interesting to see what response you get on the other forum chemistry wise.

I'm wondering if the hot aluminium + cement makes some sort of glass/enamel - I know portland is a carbonate, so my mind is thinking aluminium carbide...

It's been a LONG time since I failed my chemistry 'A' level tho...

I think the cement powder is a mould release for the sand.
