Are you not letting the primer dry properly before putting base down?

decent basecoat would cover in most cases , yes there situations were a tinted wet on wet primer makes sense , but day to day repairs where its the same colour and sound old paint you can just paint over it (spot prime the repairs) its how bodyshops are doing it all day long
another reason is if you can only paint onto primer then where does that leave you for blending out colour matches
That’s another problem- spraying in our climate in an unheated, non-climate controlled booth is a completely different kettle of fish than in a pro environment. Bodyshop repairs on a panel on good paint is not the same as a 20 year old motor with 20 years of bad repairs.
What you get told in YouTube videos for people professionally painting in the US or Oz won’t work in your garage in 12 degree temps. Spraying with a cheapy gun is not going to be the same as spraying with a Devilbiss GTI prolite, you said about adjusting the fluid out fully and spraying like the likes of “thegunman” does that won’t work in your shed in our cold climate. The fan pattern and atomisation just isn’t the same
In a £30 gun! If I’m painting in a unheated booth in this country i’d be using fast hardener, and an accelerator and if I was doing a full respray my primer would be 4/5 coats and left to dry for at least two days before I’d sand it and that’s a Max Meyer quality primer. You have to let your solvent evaporate! If you do thick coat over coat it’ll not work you’ll end up with an unhardened single layer if it doesn’t flash off properly.

My gun cost about £80 it’s one of the cheaper devilbiss guns. SLG620. The SLG610 is a recommended decent budget gun on here so the 620 won’t be much different to that. It transfers paint a damn sight better than my Clarke gun which was around £35. To get clear coat on smoother I just have to move the gun a bit slower, that’s all there is to it. I know how to get the paint on properly now. I know that everything is going to be a world away from a spray booth with hundreds of pounds worth of spray equipment. I can get a decent finish as long as I move the gun a bit slower. I’ve been told this before in a message someone on here sent me. Thanks.

Back to the Parkside da with 400 grit for now. It’s actually not doing too bad a job. I thought the paint would pick up like crazy without dust extraction but the finish is actually quite smooth and there’s not too much dust left to hoover up.

£30 Lidl sander has lasted longer than a £90 Sealey sander. Even if the Lidl sander is a bit greedy with air consumption and slows down sooner.

I thought the Sealey would be ideal as it was only 3 CFM. But then the plunger under the handle started sticking down and it wouldn’t shut off unless I pulled it up with pliers. Now, when I press the plunger down, nothing happens. My neighbour said the same thing happened to his sander.
