Just came across an interesting webpage. I know Fusion 360 is the "in thing" for 3D CAD on this forum, although I've never rated it very highly compared to various alternatives like onshape. Regardless of that, Solidworks has always struck me as one of the best options out there, but WAY too expensive for the likes of me.
However, apparently they're going to be bringing out a hobby subscription licence later in the year (which will hopefully be a lot cheaper). Even if they don't, if you sign up to join the American Experimental Aircraft Association for US$40 a year (assuming they allow Brits to join), it includes a personal licence for Solidworks, which strikes me as a bargain. I've already bought a perpetual licence to another CAD system (as I don't really like subscription models and don't trust Autodesk as far as I can throw them), but for anyone thinking about what 3D CAD system to use, that might be an interesting option.
