Solenoid testing

Quick one here, I've have this toaster solenoid that seems dead. The circuit supplying the coil seems to give a steady 12 volt DC but it doesn't work. I've tried a 12 volt charger and a 9 volt battery on it but it doesn't work. The coil resistance is 250 ohms, it that too much?
9 volt battery for scale.

You're saying that the coil does not energise enough to attract the armature?
I would have thought 40mA was enough current.

It doesn't energised at all or it didn't!
I found that pressing the two pins towards each other that something made contact, the tiny coil wire had broken off the pin. I managed to solder them back together.

I think it will need a new coil as it's a real bodge up and I'm surprised it's worked but toast was made!

This thing has two PCB's in it!
It's not even one of the hand built made in England ones either.
Still over £140 for a new one...

I have the classic, polished ally n chrome.....only thing ever to go wrong was one of the elements.....
PS, I worked doing maint for a private school......they had a 10-12 slot Dualit......
it did the kids toast every morning for years and never had a prob......
it ran cont for 2 hours every day....

Are you sure that's cooked, there's no black bits!

I think the top crust may be slightly discoloured, who would pay 140 for a toaster and then say it doesn't work!

Indeed. For that money I would want mine black on both sides, so it can be scraped to perfection.

That's exactly the way it should be done, do you use the smoke alarm to let you know when it's done too?

I've ordered one of these in the hope that the solenoid is the same! It's for a Magimix machine and it'll need removing from the board but hopefully it will work.

It always amazes me that there is a setting on toasters that will cremate a slice of bread from frozen.

That's exactly the way it should be done, do you use the smoke alarm to let you know when it's done too?

Like the old whistling kettles ? No. I took the battery out because it was annoying me, kept beeping to tell us the battery is low.
