It’s a Cooper S. 6 speed aren’t as problematic as the non-S 5 speed, and with 69k Im not overly concerned.

TBH a box would be £250-300, if the clutch or DMF was in question I’d replace it and then the car is still only worth what it owed me. Car cost me £1500 last Jan and cost me £1500 to get it up to scratch so not a big loss at £1750 after a year.

I lost £1250, not sure if that was clear from my description.

Certainly not the first time I have seen the bolts come out and cause the box to get damaged.

Have seen one where the drive shaft smashed a hole in the diff housing where it fell off.

Usually by no locktite being used when the bolts get removed and refitted.

Glad to see you got out of it OK, and onto the next project.

Turns out one of the driveshaft bolts had wound it way out and made a bid for freedom then the c shaped bolt washer thing turned on its second bolt then proceeded to cut its way through my gear casing!!! Never seen anything like this before!

The PO struck again? Seemed to have been fairly consistent at leaving things loose.

I bought an MGTF for the wife, someone had changed the clutch and left every bolt loose, including, somehow the single shear hit bolt that the shock and spring acts against. Wife came home with the car on its ar*e..
Irony was, it's unlikely the clutch had failed, more likely the actuator rod had stuck in the casing, common issue.
