I would prefer my own stuff not leased.....
here a solar system is priced so almost nobody can afford it......
better just to do the donkey work urself.....then get somebody to wire it up.....which I 'll do.....
the gov has no interest in going green....
in the 5 years I've been here I only know of two private systems working....
ironic considering the total amount of hours sunshine we have.....
asap were going off grid..... Ive started finding materials.....
Plus u need planning permission for the system even on ur own prop .....garden or roof....
our will go on the spare field..... and there will be 4 dogs running loose at all times.....so stuff em....

Ground mount is the answer!, easier to maintain and clean,
I am planning to make a small sheep shelter under my setup, I have also seen chicken coups built under them

Take them off, they are only fixed to uni strut type stuff! Unless they are the built in ones, in which case there have like a velux flashing kit around them

Easily said - but who does it, who covers the cost, will they charge you for lost income while they are off etc

You'd have to post the details of the scheme to get an opinion about if it's an ok deal. Presuming it's legit.

If it's heavily subsidised, I'm not sure who would be making up the difference and why.

we have a solar thread post on the forums and from the members on here has given a good enough picture on there systems and how much solar power they have gotten over years so theres a 3 year solar view of there producing

this year being the worst year for producing electric generation

so for the uk theres southern then theres liverpool to hull and finally scotland generation numbers

so kinda helps when you can play with some numbers

A lot of solar panel companies are like double glazing companies. Get several quotations and go with a known reliable and recommended installer, is my advice.

Bang on…..I spoke to 4. One gave price from google…didnt want to disclose make or spec of any of the components.
Another after being given the exact size of available roof space….still couldn't quote the correct number of panels that would fit.

I haven't read that there's any subsidising going on, it's more like a "group buy". Names are taken to register interest, then companies bid for the work and one is selected. I don't know if that's just the cheapest one, or whether other factors come into play. I expect the fact that it's organised by the local council is supposed to provide confidence.

Hopefully, but the bad taste remains from some of the "stitch up" contracts that were written. I have read some real horror stories about them, so careful analysis of the offer is crucial.

A handy tip I learned....whenever looking for quotes to install something I always look for quotes to remove said install.

Solar isn't too bad from an uninstall perspective I think but I always check so I understand the potential total costs.

Anyone DIY’d a grid tie solar system? Im interested in the G98 notification to the DNO, did you have any issues? Did you self cert or get an MCS certificate or whatever they supply? Do you even get a reply?

Son in law's parents had solar panels installed with such a scheme. They were tied to an energy supplier which proved far more expensive than without the panels ! Contract didn't allow easy withdraw to the point where there is a legal case being taken by hundreds of customers who experience the same higher bills.

I may be way off here but I thought the installation belonged to the installer and the user (you) just gets the use of power produced. The days of a Feed In Tariff have long since gone. So you have to ensure you can soak up the generation to maximise your investment, such as an EV, battery pack, baking, hot water etc. the list is endless.

People have found, that unless they have bought the panels outright, it creates problems if they come to sell the property. Also because the contract legally ties to property then any mortgage provider needs to give permission for them to be installed.

both of those is what ive read up on seems to happen, sometimes you have to buy out just to move if you let them install it on your roof

as goes for the scheme its really just a big con for the fitter to cream it nothing goes back to the user that wanted it installed and as goes for guarantee most will be gone or will use a get out clause so they wont have to be the guarantor in it as goes for the other if you think you will get any help from them not a chance you are on your own
