I would have thought it would be more complicated than that.

As @hotponyshoes shoes says, finding and the replicating the exact mains frequency.

Otherwise you'd have under or over vo!tage.

Yep, it's part of the Gxx compliance all inverters must comply with. I've an inverter in an outhouse with panels on roof, works just like that.

The only way you'll get over voltage is if either the mains voltage is too high and the inverter has to up it's voltage even higher to "push" the electrons out. Or the supply cable is too small and voltage drop along it means the inverter needs to increase its voltage to compensate. In either scenario, if the inverter voltage gets too high, it'll cut out

Sorry, there are lots of compliance standards G98, G99, G100, maybe more. I just wrote "Gxx" as a catch-all term.

The last two inverters I bought were both Chinese, both G100 compliant.

In the position of the OP, as it's such a small array, might be worth keeping an eye on eBay for someone who's upgrading to battery storage and is swapping out a standard inverter. There must be a lot of that righ now.
