Is the orange / brown stuff really any tougher than grey or black?

The pvc is slightly different as I understand it, the terracotta/brown being more "rubbery" and resiliant. Solvent weld glue doesn't touch it really. It's meant anyway for coupling with flexible, rubber sealed joints.

nope theres no difference between them

from experience of selling them and fitting them/finding them over the years

its just marketing b.s

you can use black underground and you can use orange above ground whilst the orange discolours quicker (turns white with uv sun) it also does the same with many downpipes and gutterings

you can glue boss straps to underground as much as you can to black

theres no difference with its brittle effect due to uv rays and freezing conditions it can still shatter (manholes and drain cleaning)

I hear what you're saying but talking of BS I'm pretty sure the BS numbers were different when I compared a length of terracotta pvc pipe with a grey one. Or maybe the numbers were the same with a different suffix.
